Director’s Statement
I wanted to try to portray one man’s point of view.
That’s why I chose to shoot the film in Hokkaido,Japan’s most northern island.
There’s a loneliness and an ambiguity to Hokkaido that cannot be seen elsewhere in Japan.
The desolate landscape was a perfect fit for the protagonist’s spiritual landscape.
On location, when I captured the last scene in the film, I realized that this film does not show the success of love but the loss of love.
